We meet on the 19th of September onboard Montana in the Alcaidesa Marina, La Linea, which is located next to the border of Gibraltar.
After the obligatory visit of “The Rock” of Gibraltar, we prepare to sail through the Strait of Gibraltar. With good winds, we are heading directly to Madeira.
Otherwise, we have an additional stop in Barbate. There we are already through the Strait of Gibraltar and we can choose our time of departure independently from the tide.
Depending on how early we are, we can make the first stop at Puerto Santo, a nice little island with a beautiful beach. Our further routing is 30 miles to Madeira, the island of flowers. We will moor in Quinta do Lorde, a tidy marina with associated hotel and perfectly located for a hike to Cap Sao Lourenco. Also, a trip to the capital Funchal is possible.
From Madeira, we are heading for Santa Cruiz on Tenerife. Thereafter we sail to La Palmas on Gran Canaria, the “capital of the ARC”.
Sailing yacht “Montana” is an S&S Swan 48 and is the number 28 of 46 built models of this series built by Nautor’s in Finland from 1971 to 1975. The Nautor’s Swan yachts have always been called luxury class sailing yachts and are considered to be the safest and most beautiful in the world. The yacht, designed by Sparkman & Stephens, convinces by excellent sailing characteristics and high comfort for the crew.
The ship is in an extraordinarily good condition and is still very close to the original design. Read more
The skipper Markus Bocks has many years of experience as a professional skipper and is in possession of the highest-ranking sailing licenses (Yachtmaster Ocean, Sporthochseeschifferschein). Safety always comes first for him. He has the experience of several Atlantic crossings and has been offering sailing trips in the Caribbean for six years, that’s why he knows the most beautiful islands and beaches. Of course, he is familiar with the English Channel and the European Atlantic coast. Additionally, he has regatta experience and can show you how to sail a boat faster.
